A Guide To Rhinoplasty For Men
Rhinoplasty is one of the most requested procedures at Visage Facial Plastic Surgery. Regardless of the reason for undergoing the procedure, gender plays a large role in the end goal for each patient. Most of the time, women have the goal of refining the nose to make it appear smaller. Men, on the other hand, typically prefer a strong masculine nose.
What traits make a male nose attractive?
What looks best on a given person largely depends on the rest of the facial features. But ethnicity and culture can also play a part. In some cultures, men prefer a straight bridge. In others, a slight bump gives a sense of virility (such as a "Roman nose"). A pointy nasal tip, upturned nose, or nose that is small in comparison to the rest of the face are usually undesirable. A droopy nasal dip generally lends to an aged looking appearance.
Some men fear that rhinoplasty may cause them to lose the strong, masculine look of their nose. But with a skilled surgeon, that is simply not the case. Your initial in-person consultation is an essential part of the process for determining how you would like your new nose to look. At your first consultation at Visage Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Patel will digitally alter your photo to give you an idea of how your desired results can be achieved. These alterations are kept realistic by always considering what surgical maneuver would be performed for each given change. He brings these pictures into the operating room to assist him in surgery.
These are some examples of Dr. Patel's male patients with different rhinoplasty goals.
1. This patient had both breathing and cosmetic issues that he wanted addressed. His narrow nose was expanded in the nasal valve region and the bridge and tip were refined. He still maintains a masculine nose.
2. Revision rhinoplasty is common in men who acquire sports injuries. In these cases, it is best to postpone surgery at least 6 weeks after an injury to allow swelling to resolve. This patient had a traumatic hump on the bridge of his nose that resulted from a hockey injury. We were able to reduce the bump and elevate the nasal tip to improve his side profile.
3. This man's goal was to straighten and sharpen aspects of his nose without taking away its masculinity. As you can see, a slight change can make a dramatic improvement while still looking completely natural.
4. A short nose can look overly youthful and feminine. This is not a good combination for an adult man. By lengthening the nose with strong cartilage, this patient's nose is now straight and strong.
