WHAT TO EXPECT

Planning Your Procedure

The idea of surgery can naturally bring some anxiety. That is completely normal, and we are here to guide you every step of the way.

We believe thoughtful preparation is one of the best ways to create a smooth surgical experience and support a beautiful outcome.

WHAT TO EXPECT

PREPARING FOR SURGERY

What to do.

  • Choose the Right Time

Schedule your procedure during a season when you can truly focus on recovery. Time away from work, fewer social commitments, and a calmer schedule can make a meaningful difference. Every procedure requires a different amount of downtime, but the goal is the same: a relaxed recovery with as little stress as possible.

  • Minimize Stress During Recovery

    No stress

Healing is easier when your body and mind are supported. In the weeks surrounding surgery, try to avoid unnecessary stressors such as demanding work schedules, social pressure, significant weight fluctuations, excessive sun exposure, or emotional strain.

  • Be Careful with Online Information

It is natural to want to research everything ahead of time, but the internet can be full of misleading or inaccurate information. We recommend relying on guidance from our team rather than outside sources. We also suggest avoiding surgical videos, which often create unnecessary worry.

  • Review Your Paperwork

After your consultation, you will return for a preoperative visit where we review the details of your procedure, discuss possible risks, and answer your questions. You will also receive written postoperative instructions. Please read them carefully before surgery and contact us with any concerns.

  • Pick Up Your Prescriptions

Following your preoperative appointment, your prescriptions will be called in for you. Please be sure to pick them up before surgery so everything is ready when you return home.

  • Arrange Trusted Support

You will need a dependable adult to drive you to and from the office or surgery center and remain available during the first 24 hours after surgery. Because anesthesia can linger, it is helpful to have someone who can assist with meals, errands, and basic care while also keeping us updated if needed.

  • Prepare Your Home

Set up a peaceful recovery space before surgery. Fresh linens, comfortable clothing, and a clean home can make recovery easier. Stock your kitchen with soft, easy-to-digest foods and have essentials within reach.

  • Gather Basic Supplies

Please have simple wound-care supplies available at home, including nonstick dressing pads, medical paper tape, gauze, cotton-tip applicators, hydrogen peroxide, and alcohol swabs.

THE FINAL DETAILS MATTER

The Days Before Surgery

A few days before your procedure, a representative from the surgery center will contact you with your arrival time and final details. Please share this information with the person driving you.

Before surgery, please remember to:

  • Confirm directions to and from the surgery center
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery
  • Enjoy a satisfying dinner and get a full night of rest
  • Take your antibiotic just before bedtime, if instructed
  • Wash your hair and face the evening before or morning of surgery
  • Do not swallow water while brushing your teeth the morning of surgery
  • Arrive without makeup; avoid mascara and false eyelashes for two days prior
  • Remove jewelry, contact lenses, and removable dental appliances
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing
  • Choose clothing that does not need to be pulled over your head

Most of All, Relax

Take a deep breath. You have prepared well, and our team will take excellent care of you. Everything is going to be great.
