What You Need to Know About Revision Rhinoplasty
Is Revision Rhinoplasty Right for You?
If you've undergone a rhinoplasty surgery and are unhappy with the results, you are not alone. A poorly done rhinoplasty can be very disheartening but with the right surgeon, it can be fixed. Revision rhinoplasty offers a second chance to achieve the aesthetic and functional improvements you initially sought.
At Visage Facial Plastic Surgery, we understand the unique sensitivities surrounding revision rhinoplasty. It's a complex procedure that requires exceptional skill, experience, and a deep understanding of nasal anatomy. Here's what you need to know if you're considering a revision.

Why Might Someone Need Revision Rhinoplasty?
There are several reasons why an individual might seek revision rhinoplasty:
- Unsatisfactory Aesthetic Results
- Breathing Problems
- Scarring
- Unrealistic Expectations
Is Revision Rhinoplasty Different From A Primary Rhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasty is generally more challenging and intricate than a primary rhinoplasty. Here's why:
- The anatomy of the nose has already been reshaped, therefore further reshaping may be more difficult.
- Scar tissue from the primary rhinoplasty can make tissues stiffer, less pliable, and harder to manipulate.
- Often, the initial surgery has removed cartilage in the nose, which is typically the preferred source for grafts in rhinoplasty. With major revisions, we often need cartilage grafts from the ears or rib to accomplish our goals.
How Soon Can You Get Revision Rhinoplasty?
It is recommended to wait at least 1 year after the primary rhinoplasty to allow for the nose to completely heal. The nose could appear unbalanced throughout the healing process but look ideal once all residual swelling subsides.
What To Look For In A Revision Rhinoplasty Surgeon
Given the complexity, selecting the right surgeon for your revision rhinoplasty is critical. Look for a board-certified facial plastic surgeon with extensive experience in revision rhinoplasty, a deep understanding of nasal anatomy, and before/after examples of revision cases. Most importantly, select a surgeon you feel you can trust.
Dr. Anand Patel at Visage Facial Plastic Surgery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is recognized as a top rhinoplasty surgeon in the Midwest. He is double board certified with the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and American Board of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery.

"If you are looking for a great plastic surgeon I highly recommend Dr. Patel. Dr. Patel is very professional, honest and attentive to your needs. I had rhinoplasty revision and the results are exactly as he showed me in our initial consultation. I will definitely be returning for any future facial surgeries I choose to have."
"Dr. Patel is absolutely the best. I had a rhinoplasty done several years ago that looked awful. Between the money I spent and my terrible results, I was devastated. I didn't have much faith in the quality of plastic surgeons in the Milwaukee area. I initially went to Dr. Patel for fillers and then expressed my displeasure with my previous rhinoplasty. I was leery about having additional surgery, but after getting to know Dr. Patel, I finally felt comfortable going ahead with a revision rhinoplasty. And WOW, I'm so glad I did. He listened to ever one of my concerns and the surgery has absolutely given me my confidence back. Dr. Patel is a gifted plastic surgeon and also just an awesome guy. I've been happy with the results of every procedure he's done."
"I was fortunate enough to get a recommendation to see Dr. Patel after having open rhinoplasty and a revision for a deviated septum from a surgeon in a different location. He was confident that he could make the changes I needed with a tip revision and also fix the scar that I was left with before. During the consultation, I told him to do whatever he thought I needed and that I totally trusted his judgement. I’m so glad I did that because my nose turned out PERFECTLY! 10 days later, my incision that Dr. Patel revised had already healed and it wasn’t apparent that I had surgery at all except my nose was straight and actually blends with the rest of my face verses looking out of place. I could not be happier!!!!!"
