Better Facial Peel Results With Appropriate Skin Prep

Layla Shadman • Jan 02, 2024

To achieve the best outcome for your facial peel, your skin should be prepped and ready to go. Skin prep should not be done the night before but rather weeks in advance. Certain products such as retinol and hydroquinone should be stopped a couple of days before your peel to avoid unnecessary irritation and discomfort. I recommend using medical grade skin care to safely prepare your skin. Here at Visage, we use ZO Skin Health which has a variety of products that can be tailored to your needs.

For Fine Lines & Wrinkles:

Using topical retinol or tretinoin is great for improving fine lines and wrinkles associated with aging. These vitamin A derivatives increase cell production and allow for proper exfoliation of your skin. This in turn increases collagen production giving your skin a healthy glow.

Recommended ZO Skin Health products: Retinol Skin Brightener or Wrinkle and Texture Repair

For Pigment Issues:

Hydroquinone creams can brighten the skin by blocking the formation of pigment. This is often used for patients with melasma, sunspots or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone works to block the melanin production which is how skin pigment is formed.

Recommended ZO Skin Health products: Pigment Control + Brightening Crème 4% HQ

For Deep Peel Prep:

For our deeper peels, we use a combination of tretinoin, hydroquinone and corticosteroid. The corticosteroid component is anti-inflammatory and helps with any associated itching, redness or discomfort.

When your skin is appropriately prepped and exfoliated, you will not only have better results but a better recovery. We can help get your skin in prime condition for your peel. Call (262) 701-7040 to set up a telephone consultation or in person evaluation with me to discuss your skincare needs!
