Brightening The Eyes With Dysport

Layla Shadman • Aug 28, 2023

As we age, eyebrows tend to droop and wrinkles around the eyes become more prominent. Addressing the aging eye can give patients back years of youth. Sometimes surgery is the best definitive answer to address droopy brows, heavy eyelids and under eye bags, but neuromodulator injections also play a role in aging treatments for the eye. While Dysport injections are not a replacement for a surgical brow lift or eyelid surgery, these injections can help brighten and open the eyes when injected into the appropriate muscles.

Neuromodulator injections are muscle relaxers. When injected into the muscle body, they relax the muscle. If a muscle’s action is to ‘depress’ or ‘constrict’ an area of the face, injection of a neuromodulator into that muscle will have the opposite effect. By focusing injections on the muscles that depress and constrict the eyebrows and eyes, we can help to subtly open the eye and give a brighter, more youthful look.

If you have relatively low-set brows and heavy upper eyelids, it may be best to avoid neurotoxin injections in the frontalis muscle, or upper-mid forehead, because injections here can depress the brow and make your eyelids feel heavy.

At Visage, we can help direct you as to whether surgery or neuromodulator injections may be best for you. If a surgical result is what you are looking for, Dysport treatments can be continued post-brow lift or post-upper/lower blepharoplasty to address the lateral crow’s feet and/or the rest of the forehead. If you are interested in booking a surgical consultation with Dr. Patel, or if ready for some eye brightening Dysport treatments with me, please call Visage to book a treatment with Layla Shadman, PA-C today!
