Over time, repetitive facial movements like smiling, frowning, or raising the brow will lead to deep facial wrinkles. These lines may make us look sad, angry, tired, or just plain old. Botulinum injections (also known as neurotoxin injections) contain a muscle-relaxing agent approved by the FDA for cosmetic use, namely the reduction of dynamic wrinkles. The procedure is easy to undergo with virtually no downtime. Many believe regular, early treatments may even be preventative, delaying the appearance of deep lines.

Many brands of botulinum are available. They are composed of slightly different molecules. In our experience, their effects are similar in most patients; however, this may vary from patient to patient. At Visage, we currently offer Dysport and Xeomin.

Planning Your Procedure

Procedure

  • How It's Done

Prior to injection, the skin is cleansed and, per the patient’s preference, anesthesia is applied. The combination of topical numbing cream and ice provides very effective anesthesia. The needles used for the treatment are very small and injections only take minutes to perform.

  • Results

The appearance of your wrinkles begins to improve within 2-3 days, with full results developing gradually over the next 2 weeks. Most patients achieve their desired results after just one treatment. The results of botulinum injections typically last three months.

Post-Procedure

  • Recovery & Side Effects

Most of our patients have little-to-no downtime after treatment. Temporary redness and/or swelling at the injection site is common but resolves quickly. As with any injection, bruising is also a possibility.

  • Risks

Botulinum has been used for decades for cosmetic injection purposes without serious or long-term side effects. The risk of cosmetically disturbing results like a “frozen” face, droopy eyelid, or unnatural look is minimized with a skilled injector who has extensive knowledge of facial anatomy.
