Botox/Dysport FAQ

If Botox doesn’t give the results wanted, can you switch to Dysport at the two week follow up for the same area?

Answer: I would not generally recommend switching products at a two-week follow up. For touch ups, it is best to stick with the product you started with to ensure consistency and best results for subsequent treatments. I recommend waiting for the neurotoxin to fully wear off before trying another product. Every patient is unique, and if you have any questions about switching products, check with your provider!

Does Botox/Dysport help with migraines?

Answer: Depending on the type and location of migraine, neurotoxin can improve symptoms of chronic migraine. In addition to having a smooth forehead, many patients report significant improvement in their migraines after neurotoxin injection. Sometimes the best appointment reminder for your next treatment is when those migraines start to return as the neurotoxin is wearing off!

Does stopping Botox/Dysport do more damage than never having it?

Answer: Short answer is no. Once the toxin wears off, your muscle movement returns to original function. This is great for people who are unsure about the product and want to try something that is not permanent. Unfortunately, for those of you who love the treatment, this means your wrinkles will return after the product wears off. Since Botox/Dysport last between 3-4 months, it is important to stay consistent with your treatment schedule to keep your skin looking smooth!

If you start Botox/Dysport when you are young, do you need less as you age?

Answer: There are theories that if you consistently and appropriately keep up with your neurotoxin injections, your muscles may become weaker overtime, requiring less neurotoxin as you age. This may not be the case for everyone, and each patient metabolizes the product differently.

How young is too young for Botox/Dysport?

Answer: The age at which you start using Botox or Dysport is dependent on a variety of factors. Some patients receive these injections for cosmetic and/or medical purposes. We all age at different rates and have varying degrees of muscle strength/wrinkle severity. I recommend consulting with a trusted provider for recommendations on when to start treatments. You must be 18 or older to consent to using the treatment on your own.

Which treatments help reduce under eye fine lines?

Answer:
The best treatments for wrinkling around the eyes (crow’s feet) are neurotoxin injections such as Botox/Dysport. These treatments, when injected appropriately, can soften wrinkles around the eye and help open the eye area for a more refreshed look. For fine lines of the lower eyelid, skin resurfacing procedures (facial peels, lasers) are more ideal.
